In this article we will investigate the second of three ways that we all learned about the 'inner' laws of our finances when we were young. The first way, direct instruction, was discussed in the previous article. Our focus in this article is on modeling.

No..., we didn't learn our ideas about money doing a photo shoot! The kind of modeling we're talking about just means that we watched what the adults around us did, and copied them.

If they got anxious about every little cent at the grocery store, your heart probably races when you see that expensive item swipe across the register. If your folks splurged on new clothes on payday and ate beans the rest of the week, then you have probably already found it surprisingly hard to choose a different kind of life.

Most of us act like our parents or grandparents or the other adults in our lives once we're adults ourselves. That's true for child raising, finances, how we wash the dishes, and just about everything else. By following their examples we may have found that just having strong leadership qualities isn't a guarantee of success, if other ideas are holding us back at the same time.

Wishing we could be millionaires doesn't give us the mind of a millionaire - or the financial habits of a millionaire.

Recognizing these patterns and thinking about the behaviours around money that were modeled to you as a child is an important first step toward cultivating a millionaire mindset and joining the ranks of economically successful people. You can choose to change the patterns you don't like and free yourself from your parent's ideas about money - and from here change your financial future.

When it comes to money, most people model behaviours based in fear of not having enough money, fear of making mistakes with money, and most of all, fear of change. Even people who want to have better relationships with money are often afraid of change. Even some people who want to be a millionaire have a desire rooted in fear.

If thinking and talking about money and changing your behaviours around money causes you to feel afraid, then you know you're onto something big!

As we continue to talk about the millionaire mindset and the millionaire mind secrets, it will be obvious how behaviours around money are learned, rather than concretely true for everyone.

Your thoughts, fears, and behaviors are in you, but they are not you.

You can choose to act differently and you can make that choice right now. Having good mentors will give you new models to follow, and new ideas will help cement them into behaviours.
