"Welcome to the millionaire club!" Can't you just hear the doorman now, as he ushers you into a fancy party?
Perhaps you think only smart people get to be rich. Wrong. Rich people aren't any smarter, on average, than poor people. Jaguar dealerships see as many customers who made C's in high school as ones who made A's. There are millionaires who used to be bus drivers, millionaires who used to be janitors, and millionaires who used to be unemployed.
No, rich people aren't smarter than poor people. But they do have a set of specific skills that poor people don't have. This set of skills can be learned by anyone. It just takes hard work and the willingness to learn new ways to make money - and keep it.
Wealth File #14
Rich people manage their money well.
Poor people mismanage their money well.
Managing money really is a set of many skills. Don't beat yourself up about not having these skills yet. Our society does a bad job teaching them. Luckily, you can teach yourself.
While it seems complicated at first, taking the time and effort to put down your old ideas and pick up the new ones pays big.
Managing money isn't really about how much money you have. It's about what you do with whatever you have. Whether you have a little money or a lot of money, however good your million dollar idea might have been, if you manage it badly, you'll end up poor. Whether you have a little money or a lot of money, if you manage it well, you'll end up rich.
There's a lot to learn about managing money from books and classes, and those are both excellent places to start. As you grow down your path to joining the millionaire club, however, you will reach a point where you need some millionaire mentoring. The millionaire mentor is someone who has been there, done that, and can help you do the same.
Does it seem funny to think about a millionaire wanting to help someone else get rich? Well, then you still believe some untrue ideas about the rich. It's okay to still fall into those old traps - but once you recognize it, just let it go. Remind yourself that gentle, loving, kind people make money, too.
On the contrary, many wealthy people are more than happy to lend a hand in millionaire mentoring. It feels good to help someone not have to re-invent the wheel. Your mentor can teach you incredibly valuable skills about building business relationships, managing multiple streams of income, and evaluating investments.
But the most important thing your mentor will teach you is how to keep some principle on the side that you never touch. Your mentor can help you figure out how to set this up. This is your financial freedom account or fund. The root of money management is to keep some aside so you always have some to manage! This will have you join the millionaire club sooner than you may think!
